Youth Enrichment & Leadership Academy (YELA)

The Youth Enrichment & Leadership Academy (YELA) is The Sunshine Initiative’s premier youth development program, designed to provide safe, structured, and empowering support for students across Washington, DC.

Through year-round afterschool programming and a full-day summer leadership experience, YELA equips youth with the tools they need to succeed academically, socially, and personally.

Our program blends academic support with leadership development, etiquette training, and real-world life skills, creating a well-rounded experience that prepares students for school, careers, and life.

The Sunshine Initiative is actively partnering with schools and community organizations to bring YELA to communities across Washington, DC, with a focus on expanding access in Wards 7 and 8.
